Network Rail wanted to use an article in their employee magazine, "Aspects", to demonstrate the value of coaching for managers.
The focus of the article was an interview with a senior manager. He coached his own team and two people in other teams. I interviewed the coaching manager, some of the people whom he coached and a human resources manager.
The Communications Manager briefed me about the readers of "Aspects". I also studied three previous issues of the magazine so that I could analyse the articles that appeared in it.
All the interviewees and the Communications Manager signed off the first draft of the article with fewer than a dozen word changes.
